Lionel Messi (born 24 June 1987 in Rosario) is an exciting Argentine soccer player, who currently plays as a second striker for FC Barcelona. Barcelona player Thierry Henry believes his teammate Lionel Messi is the perfect candidate to win the Ballon D'Or of this year- not Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Arsenal captain praises the Argentinean ace by telling the press, "Messi is the best. What he does is from another world. "He is exceptional. Henry clarified his point view, "After watching Arsenal against Manchester United, I insist Cristiano Ronaldo is one thing and Messi is another. "There is no comparison. Messi deserves to win the Ballon d'Or this year," he concluded.

Barcelona continues with its success, beating 2-0 Recreativo Huelva on Sunday (November 16). Lionel Messi marked the seventh goal of the season, and Seydou Keita did the rest to make the ninth victory of the Blaugrana in La Liga. The Argentinean addressed the effort to all the squad. “The credit belongs to everyone in the team,” Messi said afterwards. “These three points will encourage us even further to continue working hard,” he added.

Messi confirmed to play against Sporting

Messi has been confirmed to play Wednesday (Nov. 26) for the Champion League match against Sporting Lisbon. Barca coach Pep Guardiola decided to included the Argentinean striker after he was left out in the last clash agasint Getafe because of an injury. Guardiola said, "Messi is a necessary player, a special player, a very good player... but I've got others.” He added, “Now we need to rest a bit and get ready for Wednesday's game to try to secure top spot in the group."

Argentina defeated Mexico 4-1 on Wednesday night (June 4) thanks to Lionel Messi’s magic. The Argentine team, ranked No. 1 in the world, scored four goals while the adversary managed to convert only one goal at the Qualcomm Stadium. Nicolas Burdisso marked the first goal and the other three were scored by Messi, Sergio Aguero and Maxi Rodriguez, who kicked the last onel. Antonio "Zinha" Naelson marked for Mexico. Both teams are gearing up for the 2010 tournament in South Africa, and Argentine’s coach Alfio Basile has firmly stated his wishes, "Argentina's target is to win the World Cup, that's the end of the matter," he told the press. "Argentina has amazing prestige, the team is admired all around the world and that makes us very proud. But we want to win the World Cup," he added.

If he were to leave Spain I believe it would be to come to us,” Zanneti told the press.
